A Video Guide to Libby with the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library
Transcript:
Hey everyone! It's Mrs. Shorthouse from the Circulation Desk at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library. Today, we're gonna go over how to access Libby. So we're gonna start with what it looks like when you are using Libby on a mobile device and you're downloading the Libby app. The Libby app should have a symbol that looks like this. This is Libby, our little book girl. So you'll download the app, and then it'll typically ask you whether or not you have a library card, and if you do have a library card, how you want to search for your library. I recommend searching by typing it in. It can search by your location, but then you have to share your location with it, and some people may not be comfortable with that. But if you click searching it based on just typing it in, it should come up with a screen that looks something like this, and you can search in the library's name. Now you do want to make sure when you are searching for our library that you search for the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library and not the Cleveland Public Library. If you search for the Cleveland Public Library, you're likely to pull up CLEVNET, which is for Cleveland, Ohio. And that is a different location and will not get you the access for our library right here at the Ocoee River Region, Cleveland Bradley County Public Library. So then you should come to a screen that's similar to this and click "Sign In With My Card." You'll click "211 More" so that you will open up the full dropdown list, scroll down to the C's and click "Cleveland Bradley County Public Library," and put in your card number. It's very similar to log in on a desktop if you don't have a mobile device or if you just prefer using a desktop. It's very easy to access it from our website, clevelandlibrary.org. You can scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, where I was before, to "eBooks, eAudioBooks, eMagazines, and more!" and click "Tennessee READS-New Interface (Libby)". And then we'll come to this same screen that we just saw where you click "Sign In With My Card," "211 More," and scroll down to "Cleveland Bradley County Public Library." Now I've already signed in with my card on a different screen and it should look something like this once you've signed in where it'll show your linked card and you can add more cards if you are a member of multiple libraries.
Once you've added all of the cards that you have or would like to have linked to Libby, you can click "Back," and it will show you the main settings page, which is, the symbol for that is right down here, these three bars. And so some key settings that you may want to set up, if it doesn't automatically prompt you to set them up, are how you want to read your books. If you want to use Kindle or Libby, if you click Kindle, it will automatically send Kindle-compatible books to your Kindle device. And so that is a very good feature for people who like to use the Kindle, especially if it's a newer Kindle that has compatibility with the Libby app. You can also click how you receive notifications, and there are accessibility options for people who don't do so well with high contrast colors, who need their text to be in more sans-serif fonts, or have trouble with animation effects.
Libby is also pretty intuitive to use with the search. You can automatically check audiobooks or books, depending on what you prefer. And if you just want to browse and see what's popular right now, you can click on the library down here and see what people have been reading, and you'll notice that if it has this little earphone symbol right here, those are for audiobooks, and if it's in more of a book shape, those are for ebooks. Your shelf right here will show you what you have checked out, what you have on hold, your timeline, which is what you've read previously, and your current notices. I hope that you enjoy using Libby and let us know if you need anything else. We're happy to serve.
